Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences expands educational roaming service

The Institute of Information Technologies of the National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) is expanding Eduroam service (education roaming) for academic institutions, the Institute told Trend on Monday.

Currently, the network covers the administrative building of the ANAS Presidium and partly the main building of the Academy. Connection of the Institute for Human Rights to the network is expected in a short run.

"A few more institutions of Academy of Sciences will have an access to 'educational roaming' by late 2012 and within next year," the Institute of Information Technologies reported.

'Educational roaming' service is based on AzScienceNet scientific computer network . Eduroam allows employees of academic institutions and education system to get free access to the Internet during transportation and trips.

An Eduroam user, can connect to the Internet using credentials (username and password), which are only valid in the service of 'educational roaming'.

The Eduroam service of Institute of Information Technologies was registered in the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association (TERENA).

Eduroam is designed by TERENA working group, which provided the opportunity to combine network infrastructure,creating a common link between all the research and education networks. Eduroam is deployed in more than 35 research and educational institutions in Europe, which, in turn, contain hundreds of educational departments.
