Carriage production for Baku-Tbilisi-Kars will be established in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport and Swiss company "Stadler Rail AG", which produces passenger electric trains, will soon sign a contract on purchasing 30 carriages, Azerbaijani Minister of Transport Ziya Mammadov said today.

According to him, the new carriages will be used for the transportation via the Baku -Tbilisi -Kars railway.

"The negotiations on the purchase of new carriages have already been completed," the minister said. "We hope that the main contract with the company will be concluded in the near future. This company's passenger carriages are modern and meet all international requirements. We also reached an agreement on the construction of the plant of the company in Azerbaijan."

It is planned to construct a new 105 kilometer branch of the railway. Moreover, the Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Marabda railway in Georgia will be reconstructed, which will increase its capacity to 15 million tons of cargo per year. It is also planned to construct a station for transporting trains from the existing tracks in Georgia to the European one.
