Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service will be available in the Azerbaijani mobile operators' networks by late January, 2014, spokesman for Azerbaijani Communications and Information Technologies Ministry, Mushfig Amirov told Trend on Jan. 15.
He said the preparedness for providing this service is a prerogative of the operators, who have to run the service in the near future.
"The ministry expects that the mobile operators will introduce the MNP this month," Amirov said.
The MNP service will allow the mobile communication subscribers to retain their phone numbers in case of changing the operator, i.e. transferring a number with the subscriber's full transition from one operator to another, while maintaining the number together with the dedicated operator prefix ('050', '051', '055', '070' and '077').
Mobile communication operators have already announced their readiness to deploy MNP services, which will further increase competition in the market and help to reduce tariffs for mobile services.
