By Huseyn Valiyev - Trend:

Azerbaijani mobile operator Bakcell LLC has launched a pre-registration system for subscribers wishing to use the mobile number portability (MNP) service, the operator told Trend on Jan. 29.

Subscribers, who have passed pre-registration, will be informed after the launch of this service, the company said. The MNP is expected to be launched on February 1 this year.

"The MNP will be free of charge. It will not be available for subscribers having debt for mobile operator services," according to the Bakcell LLC.

SIM-card replacement is required when migrating to other operator's network. The migration from one network to another will be conducted in six days.

It will be possible to reuse the service after three months, according to the rules. However, this service is not available for SIM-cards used in data-cards.

The service includes notifications for the subscriber about the network he or she is using to make calls, because the cost of on-network calling and calls to other operators' networks varies. The main purpose of notifications is for the subscriber to be ready for expenses when making calls to other operator networks.

Introducing MNP services will allow mobile users to keep their phone numbers while changing operator.

Number portability means full migration of a subscriber phone number with the operator's prefix (050, 051, 055, 070 and 077).

Azerbaijani mobile operators have announced their readiness to deploy the MNP, which will further increase competition in the market. This in turn will help reduce tariffs for mobile services.

Introduction of this service will encourage operators to make additional efforts to keep their subscribers and provide more attractive services to attract new customers.
