Q 1 revenues from communication services in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic announced

The total volume of revenues obtained as a result of rendering information and communication services in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) in the first quarter of 2014 amounted to about 11.5 million manat, which is 2.4 percent more than the same period of 2013, according to a report on the socio-economic development of the NAR in January-March 2014.

Over 9.6 million manat of the total volume of services rendered to the NAR population fell to mobile services, which is 1.3 percent more than in January-March 2013, according to the report.

Numbering capacity of the NAR fixed telephone network increased by 1,806 units over the period. Currently, some 67 fixed phones fall to every 100 families in Nakhchivan.

Five base stations were used to expand CDMA wireless communication "Naxtel". At present, the technical work is underway to launch SMS service via CDMA network.

The coverage of the NAR population by Internet has reached 92 percent. Some 29.3 kilometers of fiber-optic cable of 240 kilometers via 'Ordubad-Sederek' alternative trunk route were laid as part of the project on the development of broadband Internet upon a "Fiber To The House" principle as of the first quarter.

Some 30 low-power TV transmitters were installed to provide the population with an access to digital television package. At present, coverage of the NAR population by a digital TV signal reaches 94 percent. A social package consisting of 12 channels is available for the NAR population. The digital content is broadcasted in MPEG-4 format. People must buy decoders for the transition to digital broadcasting. The cost of these devices on the market is 25-30 manat.
