From the 13th to the 27th of June Baku Museum of Modern Art will host an exhibition NUDA VERITAS- a young curator Samira Safi's debut project.
Curatorial idea is based on the work of nine artists - Ashraf Murad, Rasim Babayev Javad Mirjavadov, Altai Sadikhzade, Mir Nadir Zeynalov, Eldar Kurban, Kamal Ahmed, Huseyn Hagverdi and Sabina Shikhlinskaya - created with preconditional messages for liberalization of art in Azerbaijan under Soviet censorship.
Project Name Nuda Veritas (in Latin "The Naked Truth") reflects a desire of not just to expand the boundaries of what is permitted, but to create different art built on the subjective perception, personal experience and the feelings of the author.
Description of nude body, which was resorted by artists of different times, becomes a metaphor for the search of truth and freedom of expression, as well as the symbol of struggle with the official ideology in the second half of the XX century in Azerbaijan.
The exhibition concept was born as a result of a master-class "Curatorial and mediator practices in contemporary art" hold by Honored Artist of Azerbaijan and curator Sabina Shikhlinskaya , which took place in March 2013 in Baku within the educational program of nonprofit organization YARAT - Space for Contemporary Art .
Curatorial idea of three master class participants were deemed worthy of realizationn and will be presented on the basis of the Museum during 2014.
