Azerbaijan's government and the Organizing Committee are fully committed to make the Baku 2015 European Games a great success, Italy's Ambassador to Azerbaijan Giampaolo Cutillo told Trend May 4.

"Preparations and infrastructural works have been impressive over the past months," he said, expressing confidence that the European Games will be a great window to showcase around Europe the beauties of Azerbaijan and its cultural heritage.

He said the Baku 2015 European Games are a great opportunity to strengthen Azerbaijan's image, as well as the tremendous progress it has achieved as a relatively young independent country.

Ambassador Cutillo said Azerbaijan is a country that looks forward to constructive and friendly relations with its European neighbors and partners.

"Italy will participate in the Baku European Games with a big delegation of athletes - around 300 - led by Italian National Olympic Comity, CONI," he said.

"Italy will have one of the largest delegations at the Games, a testimony of our country's commitment to contribute to the success of the event," said the ambassador. "In addition to that, CONI and the embassy [of Italy] are also planning to inaugurate Casa Italia, a meeting point and showroom of Italy for all the lovers of our country."

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent that will take place from June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
