Azerbaijan is interested that the torch of the following European Games would be lit in Baku, minister of youth and sport of Azerbaijan, chief executive officer of the Baku 2015 European Games Operations Committee (BEGOC) Azad Rahimov said June 2 at the press conference dedicated to the European Games.
He said that Azerbaijan is interested that the torch of the European Games to be held in the future would be lit in Baku.
"We would like that the torch of European Games would be lit in Baku in the future," the minister said. "Azerbaijan, as a country which will host the first European Games, is ready to undertake the torch lighting ceremony of the following European Games."
Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place from 12 - 28 June 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. Almost 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the Games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012. The Baku European Games Operations Committee (BEGOC) will organise and run the Games in cooperation with the EOC.
