Over 150 people will carry the torch of the first European Games in Baku, Minister of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan, executive director of Baku-2015, Azad Rahimov said June 2 at a press conference dedicated to the European Games.

He said that the People's Artist of Azerbaijan, Ilhama Guliyeva will be among the torchbearers.

The minister also clarified the information on the fact that famous football player Zlatan Ibrahimovic will take part in the opening ceremony of the first European Games in Baku and will be carrying the torch. Rahimov said that this is not true. "He arrived in Baku on the basis of a personal invitation in order to familiarize himself," he said.

The information that the famous singer Adele will take part in the opening ceremony is also untrue, according to Rahimov.

Regarding the issue of broadcasting the first European Games in Armenia, Rahimov said that no agreement has been signed yet in this regard.

The minister said that according to preliminary information, some 30 heads of state will take part in the opening ceremony of the first European Games in Baku.

He also said that accredited media representatives will be able to watch the Games from the specially assigned places. "Non-accredited reporters will be able to watch the Games in the usual way, by purchasing tickets," the minister said.

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent that will take place from 12 - 28 June 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. Almost 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

The European Olympic Committees (EOC) awarded Baku the games in December 2012. The Baku European Games Operations Committee (BEGOC) will organize and run the Games in cooperation with the EOC.
