"Baku 2015 is a major sporting event for Azerbaijan and BP is the leading operator in Azerbaijan's energy industry and the South Caspian region, and operates major oil and gas development and exploration projects, as well as the world-class Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil export pipeline," the company said. "BP together with its partners has invested over $50 billion on projects in Azerbaijan since 1994."

The company said it has a strong and long-standing commitment to Azerbaijan and is engaged in Azerbaijan both economically and culturally.

"During our time in Azerbaijan, our projects and operations have realised huge benefits for the country by creating jobs, generating revenues, providing opportunities for economic growth, development of local suppliers and capacity-building for communities, and supporting numerous local community development initiatives," the company said.

"In addition, since 2011, BP has been an official partner of the Azerbaijan National Olympic and Paralympic Committees and has supported a number of individual athletes as BP brand ambassadors. Many of these teams and athletes will be competing at the Baku 2015 European Games," further said the company's message.

BP said it is the Official Oil and Gas Partner of the Baku Games.

"This builds on our experience of partnering with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games," said the company. "In addition, we are sponsoring top Azerbaijani Olympians and Paralympians, providing them and their coaches with elite training. And we're supporting the Games Academy to enhance the nation's capability to deliver major projects."

Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.
