The Azerbaijani State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy plans to consider participation in the projects in the field of alternative energy in Iran, the head of the state agency Akim Badalov said Sept. 23 as part of a business forum organized by Caspian European Club (CEIBC).

Several meetings were held during a recent visit of a delegation headed by Azerbaijani Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev to Iran.

"We reviewed the development of alternative energy in the Islamic Republic of Iran," he said. "Some projects were discussed. Currently, we are preparing to send our expert group to Iran to take part in the activities held there."

"Azerbaijan intends to invest in the renewable energy sources of Iran," Badalov said at a meeting with Deputy Energy Minister of Iran Hooshang Falahatiyan last week.

In particular, the Azerbaijani experts intend to get better acquainted with the operation of Iran's geothermal power plants and to establish cooperation with the country in this area.

Falahatiyan said that the country plans to increase generating capacity in the field of renewable energy up to 1,000 megawatts.

"Iran appreciates Azerbaijan's intentions to invest in the renewable energy sector of the country," he said.

"The representatives of the Azerbaijani side can get all the necessary information by visiting the geothermal and wind power stations of Iran," he said.

Moreover, Iran also expects Azerbaijan's proposals to restore Lake Urmia," he said.

Falahatiyan said that the current status of the Caspian Sea and Lake Urmia is important for both countries.
