The Azerbaijan Railways CJSC launched major repairs at the seven-kilometer long Salahli-Poylu railway section as part of the overhaul of the Baku-Boyuk Kasik railway running to Georgia.

"The repair work will last 5 days," the Azerbaijan Railways said.

In Dec. 2013, the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC completed the repair work of a 317-km long part of the Baku-Boyuk Kasik railway.

The work was carried out as part of the 'State Program on Development of the Railway System in Azerbaijan in 2010-2014' with the help of a 215-million euro loan allocated by the Czech Republic Export-Import Bank.

The 'Baku-Georgian Border' Railway is a part of a project for creation of railway traffic along the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is projected to be commissioned in 2015.

The highest capacity of the new corridor will stand at 17 million metric tons of cargo per year.

At the initial stage, this figure will stand at 1 million passengers and 6.5 million metric tons of cargo per year.
