Azerbaijan increases agricultural products’ export by over a third

The volume of fruits and vegetables, exported from Azerbaijan has increased 34.3 percent in the first nine months of 2014, compared to 2013, said the article by Azerbaijan's Minister of Agriculture, Heydar Asadov.

Fruits and vegetables form the basis of Azerbaijan's agricultural export.

The country achieved this increase in the volume of agricultural export as a result of expanding the export market of agricultural products and creating favorable conditions for the agricultural producers in the country, according to the article published on Nov.1.

The minister said logistics centers are being constructed in Azerbaijan and abroad in order to ensure the storage, transportation, export and sale of agricultural products.

"Three logistics centers with the capacity of 110,000 metric tons will be commissioned in Baku and Absheron peninsular by late 2014," Asadov said. "The projects of logistics centers and 'green' markets which will operate in these centers, have been agreed to and they are being constructed by using concessional loans."

The minister of agriculture said that the construction of a logistics center in Kazakhstan's Aktau has been started i to increase the volume of export of agricultural and food products.

The measures on creating logistics centers in other countries also continue, he added.
Additionally, the minister said the creation of a center for cutting and selling meat in accordance with the veterinary and sanitary epidemiological requirements in order to improve the infrastructure for selling agricultural products has been started.

"The sites for creating three of these centers in Baku have been determined. The preparations for opening of one of them are in the final stage, while the design work for constructing another two centers is underway," the article said.
