IDB to assess household waste management project in Azerbaijan

A mission of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) led by a country manager will arrive in Baku to assess an implemented project of a household waste incineration plant construction, IDB representative in Azerbaijan Tamerlan Taghiyev told Trend September 1.

"The IDB mission will arrive in Baku September 6," Taghiyev said. "It will assess the construction of a household waste incineration plant."

The IDB mission will stay in Baku until September 11.

IDB allocated 150 million euro, which were used to purchase equipment for the construction of a waste incineration plant, to implement the project worth 346 million euro.

In connection with the expiration of the program of the bank's operations in the country worth $1.4 billion, the IDB is preparing to develop a new one.

"For now, there is no information on the preparation of a new program of the bank's activities in Azerbaijan," said Tagiyev.

Earlier, ADB representative said that the IDB was planning to develop a new program of operations in Azerbaijan during the current fiscal year [in accordance with the rules of the bank, the fiscal year began on Oct. 25, 2014.]

Azerbaijan became a member of IDB in 1992. The bank has invested over $1.2 billion in Azerbaijan for the implementation of projects in various spheres of economy.

The headquarters of the IDB (Islamic Development Bank), the international financial organization founded in 1973 by the member-states of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, is located in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).
