The mission of the Islamic Development Bank in Baku has evaluated the work on the water project in Azerbaijan, IDB representative in the country Tamerlan Taghiyev told Trend Oct.7.

This project envisages the reconstruction of water supply and sewerage system in Azerbaijan's Dashkasan, Gadabay, Gazakh, Samukh, Astara and Terter districts.

The assessment mission visited Astara, Gadabay, Terter and Dashkasan districts, reviewed the work on reconstructing the system and praised the level of the work, said Taghiyev.

The timing of completion of the project depends on several factors, and the exact date is still unknown, according to Tagiyev.

"The work is carried out in areas with sufficiently difficult climatic conditions that may affect the schedule," said the representative of the IDB. "But we hope that the work will be completed as soon as possible."

The IDB has allocated $200.05 million for the realization of the project of reconstruction of water supply and sanitation in Dashkesan, Gadabay, Gazakh, Samukh, Astara and Terter districts of Azerbaijan. After this project, 320,000 people in six districts will be provided with uninterrupted drinking water.

Azerbaijan became a member of IDB in 1992. The bank has invested over $1.2 billion in Azerbaijan for the implementation of projects in various spheres of economy.

The Islamic Development Bank is an international financial organization headquartered in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). IDB was founded on December18, 1973 at the first conference of the finance ministers of the OIC member states.

IDB started to operate on October 20, 1975.
