Azerbaijani state company SOCAR has started preparation for the construction of a new bitumen rig at the Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev, SOCAR said in the message posted Dec.8 on its website.
A site on the territory of the unfinished plant for the production of sulfur has been already selected for the bitumen rig. Other facilities located here have been dismantled, waste metal carried away.
"The area has been cleared from of waste with the help of cranes and bulldozers, earthwork has been carried out on it," said the message.
Earlier, SOCAR signed a contract with the German company Poerner GmbH on the construction of a new bitumen rig at the Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev
The head of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) Rovnag Abdullayev said earlier that the process of modernization of the Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev will be completed by late 2018.
After the completion of the reconstruction, the processing capacity of the refinery will increase from 6 million to 7.5 million tons of oil per year.
The modernization cost is estimated at $1 billion.
SOCAR announced about liquidation of Azneftyag oil refinery on January 1, 2015 and its merger with Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev as part of work on improving and optimization of SOCAR's structure.
