Azerbaijan to determine TASIM project’s future realization

Azerbaijani Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ramin Guluzade will get acquainted with the construction of Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM) project, a source in the country's telecommunications market told Trend.

Details of work on the project will be presented to the head of office in the near future, after which concrete steps will be taken for its further implementation, said the source.

Negotiations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on laying the Caspian segment of TASIM can be called the active phase within the framework of the recent work on this project.

Laying of the Trans-Caspian segment of the pipeline between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan will allow reducing the route, to increase the volume of traffic exchange and achieve direct access to China.

Construction of TASIM envisages the creation of a major transit link from Frankfurt to Hong Kong. The network, which will bring together major information exchange centers of Europe and Asia, will run through the territory of China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey to Germany.

The project's cost is estimated at about $200 million. Launching TASIM can take place before the end of 2017.

Such countries as Russia (operator "Rostelecom"), Kazakhstan (operator KazTransCom), Turkey (operator TurkTelecom), China (operator China Telecom) are involved in TASIM project. Azerbaijan is represented in the project by AzInTelecom (formerly the International Relations and Accounting Center of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies).
