Azerbaijan reduces import by nearly 25%

The volume of Azerbaijan’s foreign trade operations reduced by 37.98 percent and amounted to $3.61 billion in 1Q2016 as compared to the same period of 2015.

The volume of Azerbaijan's foreign trade operations reduced by 37.98 percent and amounted to $3.61 billion in 1Q2016 as compared to the same period of 2015, the country's State Customs Committee (SCC) said Apr. 18.

The negative balance of $45.3 million was observed in Azerbaijan's foreign trade operations during the reporting period, compared to the surplus of 4955.24 million in the same period of 2015.

Moreover, 140 countries were Azerbaijan's foreign trade partners in January-March 2016.

Some 4,965 individuals and legal entities (2,681 - legal entities and 2,284 - individuals) were involved in Azerbaijan's foreign economic activity during the 1Q2016, according to the SCC.

The export volume amounted to $1.78 billion (decline by 47.38 percent for the year), said the SCC.

The state sector's share in export amounted to about $1.57 billion, the private sector - $190.86 million, individuals - $23.45 million.

Azerbaijan's import reached $1.83 billion, which is by 24.9 percent less than in January-March of 2015, said the SCC.

The state sector's share in import operations amounted to $189.22 million, the private sector - $1.54 billion, individuals - $93.59 million, according to the SCC.

Azerbaijan exported 1,249 kinds of goods and imported - 5,352 kinds of goods in 1Q2016.
