Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 24

By Elchin Mehdiyev - Trend:

The special attention must be paid to the installation of ramps for disabled voters at the polling stations during the parliamentary election, Mazahir Panahov, the chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) said at a meeting Oct. 24.

"The installation of the ramps at the polling stations is a very progressive action," he said.

He said that the web cameras installed at the polling stations must show tables of the commission members and the ballot box.

"Along with the parliamentary election, the election to the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan will be held," he said. "Therefore, it must be clearly written in the Azerbaijani and English languages at the polling stations with web cameras in Nakhchivan that the election will be conducted to the Azerbaijani parliament and Ali Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic."

It was stressed that despite the letter from the Umid party included the names of 250 observers, only 237 applications were submitted.

But these 237 people have not expressed a desire to act as observers from Umid party. Only 17 people indicated that they wish to be observers from a certain representative. Others simply indicated that they voluntarily want to be observers at the election.

As a way out of this situation, Panahov offered to give 2-3 days for Umid party to resolve the situation.

He said that some circles are trying to use the situation to create an impression of the Central Election Commission's bias attitude towards the election.

Panahov hopes that the party will be able to resolve this situation within three days.

The parliamentary election will be held in Azerbaijan on November 1.
