Azerbaijani MP Musa Guliyev has proposed to grant status of martyrs to those killed in Khojaly on a meeting on Friday.

The MP also noted that preparation of a unified document is needed for the international recognition of the Khojaly genocide.

"Our future work in this direction [of genocide recognition] should be conducted in the same direction," Mr Guliyev said.

He also said that the friendship group, inter-parliamentary working groups every year in several countries should discuss the issue of the Khojaly genocide.

Mr Guliyev, emphasizing the ineffectiveness of the OSCE Minsk Group to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, noted the need to find new ways to solve the problem.

Armenian military forces committed genocide in Khojaly on Feb. 26, 1992. Some 613 people were killed, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old men. A total of 1,000 civilians were disabled during the genocide. Eight families were annihilated, 130 children lost one parent, and 25 lost both. Additionally, 1,275 peaceful residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 remains unknown.
