The Armenian armed forces have violated the ceasefire with Azerbaijan 25 times within a day on the contact line, the message of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.

The Armenian Armed Forces opened fire at the Azerbaijani side from the positions located at the nameless heights of Armenia`s Berd region at the positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Foreces located at the nameless heights of Gazakh region and from the Aygedzor village of Armenia`s Berd region at the Azerbaijani positions located in the Agbulag village of Tovuz region last night.

The Azerbaijani Armed Forces also took fire at positions in the nameless heights and near the villages of Yusifjanly, Merzili, Bash Garvend of Agdam region, Horadiz Ashagi Veyselli villages of Fizuli region, Mehdili village of Jabrayil region, and Kuropatkino village of Khojavand region.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
