Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian discussed the preparation for an upcoming meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents in Paris, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's Acting Press Secretary Hikmet Hajiyev told Trend Sept. 24.
The foreign ministers' meeting was held in New York.
Hajiyev said the meeting was held as part of Azerbaijani foreign minister's participation in the 69th session of the UN General Assembly.
The meeting was held with the participation of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Hajiyev said.
The meeting also continued discussions on the ways of settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said Hajiyev.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented four U.N. Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
