Armenian armed forces violate ceasefire with Azerbaijan 125 times for 2 days

Over the past 24 hours, the Armenian armed forces 62 times violated the ceasefire on various parts of the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan said Dec. 29.

Armenian armed forces located on the nameless heights of Ijavan and in the village of Vazashen of Noyemberyan district of Armenia, opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces, located on the nameless heights of Gazakh district.

Azerbaijani positions were also fired at from positions near the villages of Geyarkh of Terter district, Yusifjanli, Marzili, Sarijali, Javahirli, Shikhlar, Kengerli, Bash Gervend, Shirvanli, Garagashli of Aghdam, Kuropatkino of Khojavand, Horadiz, Garakhanbayli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Veysalli, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli of Fuzuli districts.

Aside from that, the Azerbaijani armed forces were fired at from the positions on nameless heights in the districts of Geranboy, Fuzuli and Khojavand.

As of Dec.28, the Armenian armed forces violated the ceasefire 63 times. Armenian armed forces opened fire at the Azerbaijani positions located in the village of Alibayli of Tovuz district from the positions located in the villages of Aygepar and Mosesgeh of Berd district of Armenia.

Azerbaijani positions were also fired at from the positions located near the villages of Tapgaragoyunlu of Geranboy, Chayli, Geyarkh, Chilyaburt of Terter district, Yusifjanli, Shikhlar, Marzili, Sarijali, Garagashli, Javahirli, Kengerli of Aghdam district, Kuropatkino of Khojavand district, Garakhanbayli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli of Fuzuli district.

Aside from that, the Azerbaijani armed forces were fired at from the positions on nameless heights in the districts of Geranboy and Khojavand.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
