Armenia violates ceasefire with Azerbaijan 65 times in 48 hours

Armenian armed forces broke the ceasefire with Azerbaijan 26 times in numerous positions on Feb.14, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said on Feb.16.

Armenian armed forces, located in the village of Voskepar of Armenia's Noyemberyan district, opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located in the village of Ashagi Eskipara of Gazakh district.

Azerbaijani positions also took fire from the positions located near the villages of Tapgaragoyunlu of Goranboy, Chileburt of Terter, Yusifjanli, Kengerli, Shirvanli, Javahirli, Bash Gervend of Aghdam, Gorgan, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Fizuli and Mehdili of Jabrayil district.

Moreover, Azerbaijani positions underwent fire from the positions located on the nameless heights of Goygol, Goranboy, Fizuli and Jabrayil districts.

Armenian armed forces violated the ceasefire 39 times as of Feb.15.

Armenian armed forces, located in the village of Paravakar of Armenia's Ijevan district, opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located in the village of Kohnegishlag of Aghstafa district.

At the same time, Azerbaijani positions located on the nameless heights of Gadabay district, took fire from the positions located on the nameless heights of Armenia's Krasnoselskiy district.

Azerbaijani positions also underwent fire from the positions located near the villages of Tapgaragoyunlu of Goranboy, Yusifjanli, Shikhlar, Kengerli, Javahirli, Bash Gervend of Aghdam, Kuropatkino of Khojavend, Garakhanbeyli, Horadiz, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli of Fizuli and Mehdili of Jabrayil district.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijani positions took fire from the positions located on the nameless heights of Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavend and Fizuli districts.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
