Armenian armed forces have broken the ceasefire with Azerbaijan 34 times in numerous positions in the last 24 hours, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said on Feb.19.
Armenian armed forces, located in the village of Berkaber of Armenia's Ijevan district, opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located in the village of Gizilhajili of Gazakh district.
Azerbaijani positions also took fire from the positions located near the villages of Tapgaragoyunlu of Goranboy district, Chileburt, Chayli of Terter, Yusifjanli, Kengerli, Sarijali, Garagashli of Aghdam, Gorgan, Horadiz, Ashagi Seyidahmadli of Fizuli and Mehdili of Jabrayil district.
Moreover, Azerbaijani positions underwent fire from the positions located on the nameless heights of Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavend, Fizuli and Jabrayil districts.
The opposing side was silenced with return fire.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
