By Seba Aghayeva - Trend:

The Defense Committee of Pakistani Senate has made a statement condemning the "parliamentary election" scheduled by the separatist regime of Nagorno-Karabakh for May 3, Azerbaijani embassy in Pakistan told Trend on Mar.30.

Pakistani people fully support and express solidarity with the friendly and brotherly Azerbaijan on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, according to the statement.

Moreover, Pakistan strongly condemns the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia and calls for the fulfillment of the resolutions of the UN Security Council on the conflict, said the statement from the Defense Committee of Pakistani Senate.

Previously, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said that the "parliamentary election" scheduled by the separatist regime of Nagorno-Karabakh for May 3 violates Azerbaijani law and is aimed at undermining the negotiation process on the settlement of the conflict.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
