The board of Lithuanian Seimas has twice turned down the request of parliamentarians to send them to Yerevan to take part in the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the "Armenian genocide", Lithuania's BNS news portal reported March 31.

This decision was made taking into account the scrupulousness of the issue and the example of other countries, board member of the Lithuanian Seimas Vydas Gedvilas said.

The decision of Seimas was not influenced by the activities carried out by the Armenian embassy in Lithuania for participation of Lithuanian parliamentarians in these events and the negotiations of some Armenian officials in the government and parliament of the country.

Armenia and the Armenian lobby claim that Turkey's predecessor, the Ottoman Empire allegedly carried out "genocide" against the Armenians living in Anatolia in 1915. Turkey in turn has always denied "the genocide" took place.

While strengthening the efforts to promote the "genocide" to the world, Armenians have achieved its recognition by the parliaments of some countries.

It is planned to hold events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the "Armenian genocide" in Yerevan on April 24.
