By Seba Aghayeva - Trend:

The name of Argentinean journalist has been removed from the list of personas non grata of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Hikmet Hajiyev, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesperson told Trend Apr.27.

The deputy editor of Tiempo Argentino newspaper Luis Faraoni illegally visited Azerbaijan's occupied territories on March 18-23, 2015 and therefore, his name was included in the "black list" of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, according to Hajiyev.

Appealing to Azerbaijani embassy in Argentina, Faraoni said he didn't know that he will be blacklisted after visiting Nagorno-Karabakh region occupied by Armenia.

Argentinean journalist expressed regret that his visit to the occupied territories caused problems in the relations with Azerbaijan and assured that this won't happen again.

Expressing respect to Azerbaijan's sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of its internationally recognized borders, Faraoni asked to consider the issue of removing his name from the "black list" of the Foreign Ministry, said the spokesperson.

Hajiyev added that Luis Faraoni's appeal was considered and it was decided to remove his name from the 'black list' of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
