Trend:

Over the past 24 hours, Armenian military 79 times violated ceasefire on various parts of contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops.

Armenians were using heavy machine guns and mortars, said Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry Sept. 29.

Armenian armed forces stationed in the Berkaber village of Armenia's Ijevan district opened fire on Azerbaijani positions located in the Gizilhajili village of Gazakh district.

Azerbaijani armed forces also came under Armenian fire from positions near the Talish and Gulustan villages of Goranboy district, the Chilyaburt village of Terter district, the Sarijali, Yusifjanli, Javahirli and Shikhlar villages of Aghdam district, the Kuropatkino village of Khojavand district, and the Mehdili village of Jabrail district.

Aside from that, Armenians were firing from positions on nameless heights in the Goranboy, Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrail districts.

In view of the operational situation, the Azerbaijani armed forces inflicted 88 fire strikes on enemy positions.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
