Over the past 24 hours, Armenian military, using large-caliber machine guns and mortars, 73 times violated ceasefire on various parts of the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, said Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry Oct. 8.
Armenians stationed near the Tapgaragoyunlu and Gulustan villages of Goranboy district, the Chilyaburt village of Tartar district, the Sarijali, Marzili, Kangarli, Shikhlar, Novruzlu villages of Agdam district, the Kuropatkino village of Khojavand district, the Horadiz, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Veyselli, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli, Garakhanbeyli villages of Fizuli district and the Mehdili village of Jabrail district, opened fire at Azerbaijani armed forces.
Armenian military was also firing from nameless heights in the Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrail districts.
In view of the operational situation, the Azerbaijani armed forces inflicted 84 strikes on enemy positions.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
