During the past 24 hours, Armenian armed forces 121 times violated ceasefire on various directions of the contact line between the troops of Azerbaijan and Armenia, said Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry Apr. 19.
Azerbaijani positions located in the village of Kohnegishlag of the Aghstafa district and on nameless heights and in the villages of Gushchu Ayrim, Gizilhajili and Kamarli of the Gazakh district were fired at by Armenians stationed in the Paravakar and Berkaber villages of Armenia's Ijevan district and Voskevan and Dovekh villages of Armenia's Noyemberyan district.
Azerbaijani army positions located in the Aghdam, Alibayli and Kokhanebi villages of the Tovuz district were fired at by Armenians stationed in the villages of Chinari, Mosesgeh of Armenia's Berd district.
Azerbaijani army positions, located on nameless heights in Azerbaijan's Gadabay district, were fired at by the Armenian military stationed on nameless heights in Armenia's Krasnoselsk district.
Armenian army also opened fire from positions near the Goyarkh, Chilaburt, Yarimja villages of the Terter district, the Shikhlar, Javahirli, Sarijali, Kangarli, Novruzlu, Shuraabad, Garagashli, Marzili and Yusifjanli villages of the Aghdam district, the Kuropatkino village of the Khojavand district, the Garakhanbeyli, Horadiz, Gorgan, Ashagi Seyidahmadli villages of the Fizuli district and the Mehdili village of the Jabrayil district.
Armenians also opened fire upon the Azerbaijani army positions from nameless heights in the Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavand, Fizuli and Jabrayil districts.
Azerbaijani armed forces inflicted 126 strikes upon Armenian positions.
On the night of April 2, 2016, all the frontier positions of Azerbaijan were subjected to heavy fire from the Armenian side, which used large-caliber weapons, mortars and grenade launchers.
The armed clashes resulted in deaths and injuries among the Azerbaijani population. Azerbaijan responded with a counter-attack, which led to liberation of several strategic heights and settlements.
Military operations were stopped on the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Armenian armies on Apr. 5 at 12:00 (UTC/GMT + 4 hours) with the consent of the sides, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry earlier said. Ignoring the agreement, the Armenian side again started violating the ceasefire.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts. The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
