Armenian armed forces have 14 times violated the ceasefire on the line of contact of the Azerbaijani and Armenian troops over the past 24 hours, said Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry July 23.

Armenian army was using large-caliber machine guns.

Armenian armed forces, stationed in the Azatamut village of Armenia’s Ijevan district and in the Berdavan village of the Noyemberyan district opened fire at Azerbaijani positions located in the Bala Jafarli village and on nameless heights of Azerbaijan’s Gazakh district.

Azerbaijani positions located in Munjuglu village of the Tovuz district were shelled from the positions located in the Chinari village of Armenia’s Berd district.

Azerbaijani troops also underwent fire from the positions located near the Javahirli village of the Aghdam district, Goyarkh village of the Terter district and Ashagi Seyidahmadli village of the Fizuli district.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
