Armenian armed forces have 12 times violated the ceasefire on the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops over the past 24 hours, said Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry July 28.

Armenian armed forces, stationed in Voskevan village of Armenia’s Noyemberyan district opened fire at positions of Azerbaijani armed forces in Qushchu Ayrim village of Gazakh district.

Armenian armed forces, stationed on the nameless heights of Armenia’s Berd district opened fire at positions of Azerbaijani armed forces in Munjuglu village of Tovuz district.

Azerbaijani positions also took fire from the positions located near Chilaburt village of the Tartar district, Horadiz village of the Fizuli district, Mehdili village of the Jabrayil district and positions on the nameless heights of the Goranboy district.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
