Trend:

Representatives of foreign countries’ diplomatic missions and heads of international organizations accredited in Azerbaijan have arrived Feb. 15 in the Jabrayil District’s Jojug Marjanli village, liberated from the Armenian occupation in April 2016.

Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Refugees and IDPs said that the delegation has become acquainted with construction and reconstruction work carried out in the Jojug Marjanli village.

Ali Hasanov, Azerbaijani deputy prime minister and chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs, gave detailed information to the delegates about atrocities committed by Armenians during Jojug Marjanli village’s occupation, as well as about the restoration work, being carried out in the village under the instructions of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts. The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
