Azerbaijani army detected an Armenian sabotage group trying to carry out provocation near the Talish and Gulustan villages, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry’s press service told Trend.

This happened as the defense officials were inspecting Azerbaijani frontline positions near the Leletepe height and Jojug Marjanli village, controlling the Talish village and the surrounding areas.

As a result of immediate measures taken after relevant instructions to prevent the sabotage, the enemy was forced to retreat.

The defense officials, led by Minister Zakir Hasanov, also met with servicemen in the lands liberated from the Armenian occupation, as well as checked their combat readiness and got acquainted with their social and living conditions.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
