“Withdrawal of the occupation forces from Azerbaijan must be main condition at the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” Steph Goris, the chairman of the West-European Council Interparliamentary Assembly, said to Murtuz Alasgarov, the chairman of Milli Majlis (Parliament) during the meeting on Wednesday.

“The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be regulated in the shortest time, the internally displaced people must return to their permanent residence. However, the main condition is to liberate the occupied territories,” he underlined. Goris stressed that the rest issues may be settled only after the withdrawal of the occupation forces.

Goris also noted that the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev would deliver a speech at the December session of the Assembly and the participant of the session would discuss admission of Azerbaijan to the organization.

Goris stressed that Belgium would take chairmanship at the OSCE in January 2006 and he as representative of the Belgian ruling party would raise the issue before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support fair settlement of the conflict.

In his turn, Alasgarov underlined that Azerbaijan was aware of the position of the East-European Council in this respect.

“Report on stability in the South Caucuses will be read out at the session and I hope that the document will be objective,” Goris added.
