The municipally head of Turkey's Siirt province, Mehmet Mesut has been detained on suspicion of murdering a candidate from Felicity (Saadet) Party, Bahman Aydin, JazeeraTurk TV channel reported.

Four more people have been detained besides Mesut, who was a candidate from the ruling Justice and Development Party in the municipal elections.

Bahman Aydin, the Felicity (Saadet) Party's candidate in the municipal elections in the Siirt province was killed on March 31 by unknown gunmen.

Additionally five people were injured. Other details of the incident haven't been reported.

The Saadet Party is an oppositional Islamist party. During the elections the party gained less than one percent of the votes.

The municipal elections were held in Turkey on March 30. The Justice and Development Party won in the elections, gaining 45.6 percent of the total votes.
