A crude oil pipeline in Gachsaran region in southwestern Iran cracked on April 12 and large amounts of oil leaked out of the pipeline.

The pipeline with 26 inch (66 cm) thickness is one of the main crude oil exporting pipelines in the country, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on April 13.

At present there are 5,500 kilometers of oil pipelines in the region, the lion's share of which are worn out.

The pipelines transfer 500,000-600,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

No reports have been issued to the moment about probable damages to the nature from the leakage.
