Azerbaijani national gymnastics team won five gold medals, eight silver medals and four bronze medals at the 26th International Bosphorus Artistic Gymnastics Tournament, Azerbaijani Gymnastics Federation said Sept. 8.

The tournament was held in Turkey's cultural capital of Istanbul between Sept. 6 and Sept. 7. It was a very fruitful competition for the Azerbaijani athletes in terms of medals.

Four gold medals were won by the women's team member Anna Pavlova. She brilliantly performed on the parallel bars, balance beam and in jumping.

Aside from that, Pavlova came in first in all-around competition. She is followed by other members of Azerbaijani team - Marina Nekrasova, Yulia Inshina and Maria Smirnova.

Azerbaijan's current champion, Marina Nekrasova came in second in jumping and third in the floor exercise, while Yulia Inshina won silver medal in the floor exercise and a bronze medal in her performance on the balance beam.

The men's team also excelled at the competition in Istanbul, winning eight medals. The gold medal was won by Peter Pahnyuk, who gave an excellent performance on the parallel bars.

He also won a bronze medal performing on the vaulting horse.

Oleg Stepko, the current champion of Azerbaijan won four silver medals, performing on the parallel bars, horizontal bar, vaulting horse, and in the floor exercise.

In team standings Pahnyuk, Stepko, Ruslan Namazov and Ugur Khalilbeyli won the silver medal, beating a Bulgarian team.

The gold medal was won by Turkish gymnasts.

Ahead of Azerbaijani athletes is the world championship in artistic gymnastics, to be held in China in early October.
