Forum on establishment and reforming of child care system is timely and important: UNICEF Regional Director

In view of the current global economic crisis, the forum on the establishment and reforming of child care system is both timely and important, the UNICEF Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe and CIS Steven Allen said during the second Forum for the Protection of Children, organized by UNICEF in Bishkek. 

"In light of the current global economic crisis, theme of the forum on the establishment and reforming of child care system was timely and very important," said Allen.

The second international forum on the protection of children under the title of establishment and reforming of child care system in Central Asia, Azerbaijan and Turkey takes place in Bishkek on May 12.

It is attended by government delegations from 7 countries in Central Asia: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and representatives of European countries.

Allen said that in the coming years, reform of child protection and increasing investments in measures to prevent the separation of the child from the biological family should be a priority for all countries.

"This forum will allow us to assess the current efforts to reform systems of care and share experiences on how to accelerate these reforms," said Allen.
