U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State: U.S closely monitors pre-election situation in Georgia

The main objective of my visit to Georgia is to familiarize with pre-election situation, the second U.S. Deputy Secretary Tina Kaidanov said in Tbilisi today after the meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze.

The main objective of my visit to Georgia is to familiarize with pre-election situation, the second U.S. Deputy Secretary Tina Kaidanov said in Tbilisi today after the meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze.

"Today I have met with different groups and political parties from whom I heard about pre-election situation in Georgia", she said.

She said that Washington is closely monitoring the election situation in Georgia and democratic changes taking place in the country. "We intend to closely monitor the elections for local government May 30", she said.

During the meeting, regional security and conflict settlement in Georgia were also discussed.

The second Deputy Secretary of State arrived in Tbilisi from Baku and will leave for Yerevan tomorrow.
