Russian Federation Council official: Azerbaijani people to voice decision on parliamentary elections day

Nothing prevents the will of the people. Azerbaijani people will voice their decision on the day of parliamentary elections, Svetlana Orlova, Vice-Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly, coordinator of the group of observers of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, said.

"There are more than 50 observers in a delegation of the CIS mission, as opposed to many other observers We rely on long-term monitoring," she told Trend.

She said that women actively participate in electoral commissions in Azerbaijan.

"The Baku branch of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly held long-term observations in more than 20 regions of Azerbaijan. It studied the preparation for the elections, the compliance
with legislation, the equal participation, " she said.

She said that the observations show that there is a multi-party system. About 23 political parties and five blocks are involved in the elections.

"The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly's report said that preparations for the elections comply with all international standards and international commitments of Azerbaijan", she said.

The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for November 7, 2010. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies.
