The Azerbaijani MPs have today appealed to the Iranian parliament in the shoaling of Lake Urmia.

Speaking at the first meeting of the autumn session, Azerbaijani MP Ganira Pashayeva said the drying up of Lake Urmia is alarm over the fate of millions of people.

"Shallowing of Lake Urmia impacts not only on this territory, but also the surrounding regions. I want to urge the Iranian parliament not to be indifferent to the problems of Azerbaijanis living there," she added.

She said the Azerbaijanis protesting in Iran become a subject to repressions.

"I would suggest that the funds allocated to the Seher TV channel conducting anti-Azerbaijani propaganda in Iran were directed at improving the social situation of Azerbaijanis living in this country," she added.

MP Fazail Agamali said a decline is recorded in water level in Lake Urmia at seven meters. He said drying lakes will have a direct impact on Nakhchivan.

"Ten million people will face an ecological threat," he said.

He proposed the Azerbaijan parliament to call on the Iranian Parliament to work on stopping the shallowing of the lake. If necessary, Azerbaijan can help Iran, he said.
