Azerbaijani ambassador to the Republic of South Africa Elkhan Polukhov met with Interior Minister of South Africa Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma in the frame of a visit to Cape Town, the press service of the Foreign Ministry told Trend.
Polukhov spoke about the successful path traversed by Azerbaijan and emphasized the similarity in development of Azerbaijan and the Republic of South Africa.
Polukhov noted that Azerbaijan and South Africa have successfully moved to the new political system in almost the same historical period, in the early 90s, and since then both countries have a continuous struggle to maintain their independence.
Polukhov stressed the great potential for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and South Africa and called Dlamini-Zuma to take steps to establish and strengthen relations with Azerbaijani counterparts.
Dlamini-Zuma, in turn, noted the important role of Azerbaijan in South Caucasus region and rewarded the opening of the South African embassy.
