The role of press in raising the level of culture in Azerbaijan, covering social and political events is indispensable, deputy chairman and executive secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party Ali Ahmadov said at an event dedicated to the National Press Day.
"There are enough members of the press in Azerbaijan, conducting an independent activity corresponding to national interests," he added. "Their professionalism is growing every day. The press is being developing today. It moves away from the gossip and rumours and seriously analyses the current processes."
He added that the Azerbaijani government pays special attention to the development of the press.
"The basis of this concern was laid by Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev," he said. "Incumbent president Ilham Aliyev continues it today. The material base of the press is being expanded. The government is taking the necessary measures to improve the welfare of journalists."
Ahmadov said that, as in any other spheres, the press also has problems.
"But the development, improvement of the press in Azerbaijan is impossible without the development of the country," he added.
