The U.S. should warn Israel about the necessity to immediately stop air strikes on the Gaza Strip, TRT Haber TV channel quotes Turkish President Abdullah Gul as saying on Thursday.

"Turkey and the entire world are waiting for the U.S. to warn Israel about the necessity to stop air strikes on the Gaza Strip," Gul said.

He stressed that Turkey is closely watching the developments on the Gaza Strip and condemns Israel's actions against the civilian population of Gaza.

The Israeli Air Force carried out attacks today, the second day of operations on the Gaza Strip, aimed at about a 100 targets and killing three members of the HAMAS movement's military wing, bringing the total number of killed Palestinians to at least 11.

Operation Pillar of Cloud has been a large scale operation carried out over the past four years. Tanks and naval ships are involved in the shelling of Gaza in addition to planes. Representatives of the Israeli political leadership and military command do not rule out a land invasion.

Last time Israel brought ground troops into the enclave was in the winter of 2008-2009. Then the victims of the operation amounted to about 1400 Palestinians.
