Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament meets with co-rapporteurs of PACE Monitoring Committee

Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov received PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs Pedro Agramunt Fonta de Mora and Joseph Debono Grech on Wednesday, the press service of the Parliament said.

Speaker noted that the ongoing discussions serve the development of relations between Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe. Asadov informed the guests about the reforms carried out in Azerbaijan, on the protection of rights and freedoms, said that Azerbaijan is interested in developing relations with all international organizations, including the Council of Europe and its Parliamentary Assembly.

He also noted that 54 pardon decrees were signed since 1994 to date; the Azerbaijani Parliament adopted nine acts of amnesty.

The co-rapporteurs, reporting on meetings held during visits to Azerbaijan, said that their goal is to discuss the final details of the report prepared on Azerbaijan with the relevant structures.

After discussion of the report at the meeting of the monitoring committee, to be held in December in Paris, it will be included in the agenda of the PACE winter session next year.

It was noted that the report will address the issue of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the situation in the South Caucasus.
