It is planned to open an Azerbaijani consulate in the Iranian city of Mashhad, Azerbaijani ambassador to Iran Javanshir Akhundov said at a meeting with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce of Mazandaran province, held in the city of Sari on Wednesday.
The provincial head proposed that the Azerbaijani Consulate General should operate there, Akhundov said.
"Opening the Consulate General in Mashhad is our priority," ambassador said. "Opening the Azerbaijani Consulate General office will help further development of relations between the two countries."
The diplomat said that the issue will be discussed at a meeting of the Azerbaijani-Iranian Joint Economic Commission to be held in the near future to develop closer economic ties between the two countries.
At the moment, the Azerbaijani Consulate General operates in Tabriz.
