The Iranian Foreign Ministry gave a protest note to the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Tehran, The Iranian news agency Mehr announced on Tuesday.

Delivery of the protest note is related to the fact that a Saudi diplomat violated domestic laws of the country, exceeding the speed limit and causing the death of an Iranian citizen, representative of Iran's Foreign Ministry Ramin Mehmanparast told journalists.

The incident is being investigated both in judicial order and through diplomatic channels, Mehmanparast said.

Earlier a Saudi diplomat accredited in Tehran caused an accident while drunk that resulted in a person's death. The diplomat, while driving a "Hyundai" , exceeded the speed limit and, lost control on the highway, crashed into a Ford Festiva" (Pride) car in front of him. As a result, the Ford Fiesta "clashed into the roadside poles. The driver of the car was killed, and one person was injured in the accident.
