Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili and Afghanistan's Deputy Foreign Minister Ershad Ahmadi held a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest, the IRIB News Agency reported.

Jalili praised Kabul's progress in achieving stability and democracy, while stressing that the two neighboring countries should boost bilateral trades in different fields.

He further said that the United States of America's policies show that Washington is not in favor of unity and progress in the Islamic world.

"Supporting terrorism and opposing democracy have been the basic pillars of US policies in the region," he said.

Ahmadi thanked Tehran for its constant support for Afghanistan over the years.

He went on to note that the June 14 presidential election was a great victory for the country and the Iranian nation.

Ahmadi also expressed hope that the two countries' ties, especially in the economic sector, would increase after the withdrawal of western powers from the region.
